ORGANISATIONAL MANAGEMENT: A PRE-REQUISITE FOR GOOD LEADERSHIP

ORGANISATIONAL MANAGEMENT: A PRE-REQUISITE FOR GOOD LEADERSHIP

By Ignatius Ibanga

Organizational Management is a high quality management training tailored to meet the specific needs of managers and leaders basically in the business environment in the 21st century global village.

Organisational management is aimed at helping organizations to unlock the potentiality of their people, offer best options to improve performance and help them acquire a thorough understanding of what it takes to achieve competitive/comparative advantage in today’s’ complex and constantly changing world.

Organisational Management entails a lot of things- Identifying and harnessing the rich potentials/capability of the organisation, co-ordinating/managing the tasks of the group, company /or organisation; maintaining the ideal balance that base suits the culture and philosophy of the organisation; managing organisational change and growth, etc.

There are two distinct forces that dictate how to act within an organisation: Culture and Climate.

Each organisation has its own unique and distinctive culture. It is a combination of the founder’s philosophy and ideology, past and presents leadership, crises, events, history and size. The culture of every organisation is a deep rooted nature of the organisation that is a result of long-held formal and informal systems, rules, traditions, and customs. Climate is a short term phenomenon created by the current leadership.

Climate represents the beliefs about the “feel of the organisation” by its members. This individual perception comes from the people believe about the activities that occur in the organisation. These activities influence both individual and team motivation and satisfaction.

Identifying Organisation Potentials

Every organisation centered on people for the achievement of its set goals and objectives irrespective of the nature of business. Whether the organisation is into manufacturing, customer service, telecommunication, construction, textile, etc. it must be human oriented ie human organisation.

What this means therefore is that the people are important. The people are the core that drives the organisation /or company as the case maybe. The people are indispensable. The people are the bedrock of the organisation’s success without which the dreams, aspiration, vision becomes nothing but illusion.
